They can serve as important materials and experiment sites for probing into origins and history. Animals There are many kinds of wild animals in Mt. Huangshan. They account for 2/3 of the total animal species in the whole province. According to the investigation statistics, there are 176 kinds of birds in 17 orders and 40 families, 21 kinds of amphibious animals, 48 kinds of reptiles, 24 kinds of fishes and 54 kinds of beasts. Two kinds of birds, Syrmaticus ellioti and Ciconia boyciana, are under the first-class state protection; four kinds of beasts -- Neofelis nebulosa, Panthera pardus, Muntiacus crinifrons and Cervus nippon under first-class state protection; the amphibious fish, Megalobatrachus davidianus and birds like Aix galericulata, Lophupa nycthemera fokiensis, Pucrasia macrolopha darwini, Miclvus korschun lineatus, Accipiter soloensis, Acccipiter nisus nisoimils, Buteo buteo, Augila clanga, Falco tinnunculus saturatus, nine kinds of beasts including Macacca thibetana,Macaca mulatta,Manis pentadactyla,cuon alpinus,selenarctos thibetanus Viverra zibetha, Virerricula indica, Hydropotes inermis, Capricornis sumatraensis are under the second-class state protection. Mt. Huangshan also has the following rare birds: Garrulax poecilorhynchus berthemyi, Leiothrix lutea, Caprimulgus indicus jotaka,Eurystomus orientalis calonyx,Halcyon smyrnensis,Fringilla montifringilla,Motacilla alba leucopsis,Garrulax Canorsy,Phylloscopus proregulus,Zosteroips japonica simplex. Mt. Huangshan Senic Spots have been giving the first priority to protection of the wild animals as the precious tourist resources. They have formulated relative regulations to forbid catching and hurting wild animals in the senic spots. The effective measures result in certain increase of the animals either in number and species.
