| Huangshan Mao Feng (Certified
Organic) Green, China
Tasting a purchased sample of Huangshan Mao Feng China green
tea, 3 grams in six ounce gaiwan, water (well water thru Brita)
to 170F, steeped two minutes.
The aroma is very rich and the cup is lightly sweet, nutty,
vegetal with hint of floral notes, touch of what I find as pleasant
brothy. According to the website, Huangshan Mao Feng is "considered
by some to be one of the five most famous teas in China."
The tea "grows on rich organic soil, among wild peach trees."
The plucking "consists predominantly of one leaf and a
silvery down-covered bud" and the interior of the small
sample packet was covered in the downy fluff. I also found one
small "something" in the leaf that appears to be a
tiny flower bud of some sort. The dry leaf has an almost herbal
note to it that does not come thru to me in the brewing. 2nd
infusion (which, the website notes, is considered to be the
"sweetest," with the first the most fragrant and the
third the strongest) is coming though beautifully fragrant still
as is now the third...which I perceive, I guess, as not so much
"stronger" as just having the vegetal notes more clearly
defined. Overall, I don't personally perceive this as one of
the "sweeter" greens.
