Huizhou District is 440 square kilometers by area, with a population
of 90 thousands. It has long been served as a south gate to Mt.Huangshan.
It borders Shexian County, Tunxi District and nestle in the south side
of Huangshan Mountain Range.
Yansi (or Yanzhen), an ancient town, situated between Tunxi and Shexian,
is the southern entrance to Mt. Huangshan. It was set up in the second
year of Shaoxing' s reign (1132) in the Southern Song Dynasty. By the
early Ming Dynasty it had developed into a town of 3 miles in circumference
with 10 thousand households and hosts of merchants and traders . Yansi
is the seat of the Huizhou prefectural government.
Huizhou District is a place full of historical sites, praised as "a
corridor of ancient construction". Here you can see old pagodas, archways,
bridges and houses either along the road or in ancient viallages and
